Kids cutlery for Design Letters

The task was to design a cutlery set that children could use while learning  the letters of the alphabet. I wanted to shape the cutlery in a way that brings out the iconic shape, almost like a pictogram. Variations in thickness should be fluid and gradual. Soon, a chubby form emerged, and I needed to tighten the lines slightly. Eventually, the cutlery found its chubby, slightly angular shape. A child-friendly shape without sharp or pointy bits. The initial inspiration for the form universe was the Danish artist Hans Scherfig’s jungle animals: soft and rounded, in simple lines that clearly capture the key characteristics of the animal. The cutlery features the typography designed for Aarhus City Hall by my grandfather and Erik Møller.
